What this actually involves.
A tired VCT floor is almost never worn out tile. It is eight years of yellowed finish with dirt sealed inside it, buffed to a shine on top and grey underneath. No amount of mopping fixes that, because the dirt is under the coating.
Stripping takes the old finish off completely. Then the floor is neutralised, rinsed and dried, and new coats go down one at a time with proper cure between them. Rush any of those steps and the finish lifts within a month — which is why the cheap quote is rarely the cheap job.

Strip & Wax Floors — your questions
How long does a strip and wax take?
A typical suite is an overnight or a weekend. The floor must be dry and cured before traffic returns, so we schedule around your closure rather than promising you can walk on it in an hour.
How often does a floor need stripping?
Usually every twelve to twenty-four months, with scrub-and-recoat and burnishing in between. A floor on a proper maintenance cycle needs full strips far less often, which is cheaper over time.
Can you work overnight or at weekends?
Yes, and for floor work we usually prefer it. It is the only way to give the finish the cure time it needs.
Why is one quote so much cheaper?
Almost always coats. A three-coat job on a badly neutralised floor is quick and cheap and it lifts within a couple of months. Ask any quote how many coats and how much cure time; ours says it in writing.
